Our trip to Essaouira from Agadir begins before dawn, with the scent of argan wafting into the vehicle even before we arrive. Our driver-guides leave Agadir early in the morning, drive north along the Atlantic coast, and stop en route at a women’s argan oil cooperative. Then the road climbs gently, and the argan trees give way to the ochre ramparts of the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001.
On the itinerary for the Essaouira excursion
The day alternates between guided tours and free time. Our driver-guides know the sights and the rhythm of the medina: they’ll guide you without hovering, and give you space to breathe.

Bring a light sweater: the medina of Essaouira is windy even in summer (trade winds), and the temperature difference from Agadir can be surprising. Wear comfortable shoes for walking through the souks and sunglasses for La Skala overlooking the ocean.
