Full description
The scent of tanned leather greets you as soon as you enter our Agadir babouche workshop in the Kasbah Souss Artisans’ Village. Hossein seats you at his workbench. He brings out the prepared hides and lays out the available colors on the table. Over the course of two hours, you’ll craft your own pair. Your movements follow the rhythm of the waxed thread and the awl.
The flow of the Agadir babouche-making workshop
The workshop follows the actual process of making a leather shoe, step by step, with constant guidance. First, you choose your style, then the leather. You then move on to assembly with Hossein by your side.
Choosing a style: traditional babouche, moccasin, or sandal
Selection of leather, colors, and topstitching
Cutting, assembly, and sewing guided by Hossein
Customization of the finishes and sole
Tea or coffee break halfway through

The Kasbah Souss Artisans’ Village is home to Agadir’s leather artisans. They work in workshops open to the public. Hossein crafts custom-made Agadir babouches there using supple leathers that have been used for generations. The team will touch up the finishing touches after you leave to ensure the stitching holds and the topstitching is even.
