Full description
This Agadir jewelry-making workshop with Mohamed Salhi begins with the woody scent of polished horn wafting through the studio. Mohamed places a raw, almost rough piece of horn and a few tools in front of you. Over the course of two hours, this piece of material will become the piece of jewelry you’ll wear. You’ll carve, polish, and engrave your piece from start to finish.
What to expect from the Agadir jewelry-making workshop
Mohamed adapts the pace to each participant and guides you step by step, from raw material to finished piece. The workshop is hands-on and participatory, open to all skill levels.
- Discovering the recycled horn and choosing your starting piece
- Sculpting and shaping: bracelet, pendant, or freeform
- Hand polishing until the ivory-like material shines
- Customization available: engraving of a name, pattern, or design
- Drink break and souvenir photos with your creation
Ivoirine and Mohamed’s expertise
Ivoirine is Mohamed’s technique: transforming reclaimed ox horn into pieces that mimic the delicacy and softness of ivory, without carrying its ethical burden. This approach, rare in the Souss-Massa region, is part of the Moroccan artisanal movement that reimagines local materials. Mohamed has been working with horn since 1997, following in the footsteps of his family workshop.
Who is this Agadir jewelry-making workshop for?
The workshop is open to everyone, from beginners to the simply curious, and welcomes children ages 6 and up when accompanied by an adult. No physical requirements: the space is wheelchair accessible. A great introduction for those discovering Agadir’s crafts with family or friends. To round out the experience, check out our pottery workshop in Agadir.
Tip from the team
Choose a simple design for the engraving: a letter, an initial, or a small symbolic shape. Polishing takes time, but it’s the stage where the material reveals its softness. Wear clothes that can get dusty: horn dust is fine and light in color.
Meet your artisan
Mohamed Salhi
Partner artisan29 years of experience
