Agadir is a popular tourist destination in Morocco, famous for its beaches, mountains, and cultural history. If you are planning a trip to Agadir, it’s essential to understand the transportation options available to you to move around the city easily and safely. In this article, we will give you practical advice to help you get around the city and its surroundings.
Bus travel is an economical option
Taking the bus in Agadir can be a convenient and economical option for travelers without a car.
Urban buses are managed by the company Alsa, which operates 40 routes and has a fleet of 206 buses.
Buses cross all neighborhoods of Agadir, including the most remote areas.
If you plan to use the buses regularly during your stay, you may want to opt for the Ikhlas magnetic card. It offers a 17% discount on the ticket price and can be used by the whole family.
However, peak hours can be quite busy, and delays are not uncommon. So it is advised to allow plenty of time for your bus travel in Agadir.
It’s not uncommon for all the seats to be taken. But the bus will continue to fill up, if you’re a bit claustrophobic, we wouldn’t recommend it.
Taking a taxi to visit Agadir
Taxis are an affordable way to get around. There are 2 types of taxis in Agadir, like in all cities in Morocco. The small taxis and the grand taxis, we explain.
Small taxi Agadir
The small taxi, as its name suggests, can carry up to three people. Beyond this limit, you will need a second one. This mode of transportation is for trips within the city of Agadir. It cannot take you outside the city as that is prohibited.
As a visitor, the taxi can be a great way to explore the city. Many drivers offer half-day rental services (150-200 dirhams) and act as genuine tour guides.
However, some drivers may try to charge you a flat fee to take you from point A to point B. It is better to politely decline this offer and ask the driver to use the meter.
Grand taxis Agadir
The grand taxis, also known as collective taxis, are a convenient option for travelers wanting to move between Agadir and other cities in the region. These white taxis can accommodate up to six passengers and do not have meters on board.
Before getting on board, it is important to negotiate the fare with the driver.
To find a grand taxi, head to the “taxi station,” their starting point. Some grand taxi stations serve specific destinations. For example, if you want to go to Taghazout from Agadir (10 dhs / person), you need to take a taxi at the “Battoir” station, located in the city center of Agadir.
Between the airport and the city, a trip in a grand taxi will usually cost you about 200 dirhams.
Travel from Agadir to another city by coach
The larger cities not served by the railway network can be connected by coaches. Morocco has several bus stations and bus companies. The most important ones are Supratours, a subsidiary of ONCF, and CTM. The offices of these companies are located at the Al Massira bus station (Boulevard Abderrahim Bouabid). The vehicles are air-conditioned and quite comfortable. For example, the average cost of a bus trip from Agadir to Marrakech is 115 dh.
Renting a car in Agadir
Renting a car in Agadir has several advantages. First, it allows you to visit the city at your own pace, without depending on public transport or taxis.
